Crystal M. H. Cook
BIOGRAPHY
Ms. Crystal Cook was raised in the communities of Green Bay and Howard-Suamico in northeast Wisconsin. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1996 and went on to pursue her studies at Saint Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin. There, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education. She began her career as a substitute teacher at Washington Middle School in Green Bay and in May of 2002, she joined the Howard-Suamico School District as a seventh grade science and language arts teacher at Bay View Middle School.
Crystal worked on several committees and curriculum teams at both the building and district levels during her first couple years in Howard-Suamico, including the Instructional Leadership Team. This led her to pursue and earn her Masters of Science in Education degree from Saint Norbert College in 2006. With an emphasis in literacy, Crystal worked with a variety of sub-populations at the middle school and began to take an interest in special education. Her focus turned towards studying co-teaching with her teaching partner of six years, Denise Gering. Together, Denise and Crystal planned and delivered professional development at the regional and local levels with their program entitled Co-teaching with Heart.
The experience of working with striving students inspired Crystal to return to school to better understand how she could assist learners in developing their reading and writing skills. In June of 2009, she earned a second Masters of Science in Education with an emphasis in literacy from Concordia University of Wisconsin. As a licensed literacy specialist, she moved on to work at Bay Port High School in summer of 2011 to assist in developing the reading intervention program. The same summer, Crystal had the opportunity to study The Common Core State Standards with a curriculum development team at CESA 7. There, she advised as an expert practicioner for the authorship of The Curriculum Companion, an electronic resource for teachers to assist with planning the new curriculum called for by The Common Core State Standards. Crystal's most recent career endeavor is her new position as a Teaching and Learning Coordinator in Howard-Suamico. She is excited to lead and support the goals of the district with regard to literacy, Response to Intervention, and Title I/ESEA funding.
Her current career interests include making the transformation to becoming a digital educator, continuing to study the Common Core State Standards as well as student assessment and reading intervention, coaching colleagues on secondary literacy, and administering professional development to teachers and administrators. In January of 2012, Crystal earned her licensure to review professional development plans for teachers and administrators. To request that Crystal join your PDP team, please create a QEI account and send an electronic invitation.
In her free time, Crystal enjoys running, spending time in the sun with family and close friends, and reading to develop new interests and enhance her knowledge of education and teaching in general.
